Singapore’s floral exhibitions criticised

I went to the Taipei International Flora Expo on 19 November last year for my Taiwan Exchange Trip 2010, I saw this on yahoo...

Those were some of the criticisms two trade groups representing Singapore received at an international flora show held in the Taipei Expo.

Some Singaporeans also wrote to The Straits Times (ST) Forum page this week to complain about the standard of the exhibits after they visited it. The exhibits drew unfavourable remarks from other visitors, they claimed.

One said the outdoor exhibit, Floral Garden, “looked more like an empty garden with a few palm trees”; another called it a “putting green”.

Floral Garden is created by the Floriculture Association Singapore (FAS), a private trade body representing about 50 firms doing floral design and arrangement.

Two indoor displays put up by FAS and the Singapore Florist Association (SFA), which has about 100 members in the horticulture wholesale, retail and landscaping business, were also criticised for using artificial flowers by a Lianhe Zaobao reader.

In total, Singapore has three indoor and two outdoor displays at the Taipei Expo, a six-month exhibition and competition of flowers and landscaping creations, endorsed by the Netherlands-based International Association of Horticultural Producers and organised by the Taiwan government.
